Updates… Random Notes About Tooling

It’s been a while since I updated the progress of the build. Got somewhat distracted by outside events, delays, and dithering on whether to buy or create custom tools to meet the needs of the project while dealing with decreasing space. Most of the custom tools I’ve been building are more in relation to bodywork. What I will do is update this particular post with any new tools, mods, and eventually a parts list.

So the first thing (not necessarily in order) I had to build is a chassis dolly/rotisserie. While there are some affordable dollies on the market, they start to get pricey once you start looking into the rotisserie function. Also, It’s outside on rough pavement. I could have made the frame with steel but wood posts are just as good for a lightweight chassis like this.

This is another tool I made out of necessity – High Volume Low Pressure (HVLP) paint gun with storage. It’s compact, portable, lightweight, and noisy. Whenever I have more time I can address the sound issue but its functional for upcoming painting. I’ve seen a number of these dedicated systems for sale, but never seem to address my needs for storage of parts and that right price point. A system with a 3- or 4-stage turbine can cost some serious cash. A little digging around around the web and YouTube and you’ll see some DIY solutions as well.

Another tool of mine is the 3D printer station. Its been converted into a a direct feed system with its own print server and webcam access to monitor the prints.
